BuildOUT California’s Founders Day has quickly become the world’s largest gathering of LGBTQ/Allied businesses and professionals who are looking to connect, advocate and build capacity within the Construction and Built Communities.

The theme of this year’s event is also one of BuildOUT California’s hallmarks: ENGAGE! As we always say, “Being part of BuildOUT is never a spectator sport” so we invite you to “get on the field” and make a difference!

Based on the success of our inaugural Founders Day in 2022 we’ll showcase even more extraordinary LGBTQ/Allied firms who are breaking down the ’concrete ceiling based on their experience, qualifications and capacity – and – you’ll have the opportunity to attend forward-thinking industry panels with topics ranging from transportation and infrastructure, above and underground construction initiatives, and workforce, equity & inclusion in infrastructure.

We’ll gather for our Gala Dinner & Awards which promises to be one of the most dynamic events in the industry with world-renown guest appearances, time to network with industry leaders and most of all having FUN!

Lastly – we invite you to join us at Spire 73, on the 73rd Floor of the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown for our special brand of ‘After-Party’ under the stars with unrivaled views of Los Angeles!

TRANSPORTATION & INFRASTRUCTURE

Breakout Session 1 of Track 1

Focus: West Coast/North America

10:00am

Realizing the Legacy from Mega-Events:  From the Mobility & Equity Perspective

This Panel will review lessons learned and examine how we achieve sustainable legacy from mega events such as Super Bowl LVI in2022, FIFA in 2026 and the Olympics/Paralympics to be held in 2028. The panel will look to conclude what legacy success looks like with a specific focus on achieving economic legacy, mobility legacy and a legacy of equity and equality.

TRANSPORTATION & INFRASTRUCTURE

Breakout Session 2 of Track 1

Focus: Global

2:30pm

Decarbonizing Transportation:  Getting better use from existing infrastructure and less emissions with less funding

When we combine potential gaps in funding for new infrastructure with the focus on decarbonization of transportation, where will that lead us?  When we add to this the changes in travel behavior in a post pandemic era as well as vast capacity improvements brought about by existing and future transportation related technologies, what does that mean?  This panel will examine this concept through the four lenses of economic challenges, behavioral changes, policy initiatives and advances in technology as they relate to transportation.

CONSTRUCTION ABOVE & UNDERGROUND INITIATIVES

Breakout Session 1 of Track 2

Focus: West Coast/North America

10:00am

Wildfire Mitigation, Undergrounding Initiatives & the Expansion of Broadband: How Construction Industry Best Practices can Lead to Cost Efficiencies, Increased Safety and Reliability

Funded by massive investments from the public and private sectors, there are a multitude of infrastructure initiatives which will transform the way broadband and underground distribution power lines are built and maintained.  This panel of transportation and utility construction project management executives will discuss current efforts to build cost-effective infrastructure that mitigates wildfires and creates highly reliable communication networks. Accomplishing the objectives for these initiatives can only be done by encouraging team building and providing a forum for those involved in fiber optic and power grid civil construction and maintenance, regulators, and peers to exchange experiences, best practices, ideas, and metrics.

CONSTRUCTION ABOVE & UNDERGROUND INITIATIVES

Session 2 of Track 2

Focus: Global

2:30pm

Affordable Housing Construction, Increasing Funding and how BuildOUT California is at the nexus of new legislation which will ‘build new opportunity’ for LGBT, Minority, Women and Veteran Architects, Engineers, Contractors, and Material Suppliers

On September 13, 2022, Governor Newsom signed AB 2873 into law, which requires a housing developer that receives an annual low-income housing tax credit allocation of $1,000,000 or more, to submit an annual report to state legislators detailing a verifiable plan for the utilization of  women, minority, disabled veteran, and LGBT business suppliers and contractors. This panel, comprised of affordable housing developers, general contractors, banking executives and LGBT, Minority, Women and Disabled Veteran Advocates, will discuss how BuildOUT California is at the intersection of creating a national model for utilization and economic development.

JUSTICE40 - WORKFORCE, EQUITY & INCLUSION

Session 1 of Track 3

Focus: West Coast and North America

10:00am

For the first time in the history of the United States, the Federal Government has made it a goal that 40 percent of the overall benefits of certain Federal investments flow to disadvantaged communities that have been historically marginalized, underserved, and overburdened by pollution. The categories of investment that are covered by the Justice40 Initiative are: climate change, clean energy and energy efficiency, clean transit, affordable and sustainable housing, training and workforce development, remediation and reduction of legacy pollution, and the development of critical clean water and wastewater infrastructure.  This panel of subject matter experts will discuss current programming and how LGBT, Minority, Women and Veteran owned businesses can, and should, be actively engaged in this historic  investment program.

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS

Session 2 of Track 3

The California Department of General Services Emergency Registry – How California is leading the way, globally, in tapping into the extraordinary resources of small, LGBT, Minority, Women, and Disabled Veteran owned firms when disaster strikes.

California is at the epicenter of some of the largest natural, and man-made, disasters in the world. However, California is also home to some of the most resilient and resourceful small businesses in the world which includes LGBT, Minority, Women and Disabled Veteran owned firms. The California Department of General Services (DGS) has developed an Emergency Registry which is a database of certified small businesses that are ready, willing, and able to deploy goods or services to state departments during the event of an emergency. The pool of qualified registered firms include businesses providing goods and services in , base camp operations, logistics, traffic control, roadway repair, construction material supplies and many more. Join our panel of procurement experts from the State of California, along with businesses who are part of this Emergency Registry, as they discuss how to access the program, critical lessons learned, and how to best prepare to provide value-added services when called to service.
